Damned liberal media again
John Kerry would be President, the Senate and/or the House would likely be under Democratic control, and the current Supreme Court nominee most certainly would not be a Fascist.

Kerry's 180
John Kerry sees America as an occupier, not a liberator. Critics pounce on that, “aren’t you aware,” they sneer, that President Bush has used the term “occupiers”?

John Kerry Outed Undercover CIA Agent
Sen. John Kerry, who called for Karl Rove to be fired over allegations that he revealed the identity of CIA employee Valerie Plame, outed a genuine undercover CIA agent just this past April - even after the Agency asked that his identity be kept secret.

After All John Kerry Should Know ...
Senator John Kerry got in trouble during his pitifully failed Presidential campaign in 2004 for lying and waffling. So today, ahead of President Bushs prime time speech he warned that for the President it was time "tell the truth to the American people.

Kilgore on Transportation: Transmission Problems
Next, caught in his own illogic and abdication of leadership, Kilgore tries to wriggle out by (lamely) claiming that he “supported the [2002] transportation referendum” that would have raised $5 billion through higher sales taxes to pay for new roads and Metro. Say what? Is Jerry Kilgore saying (to paraphrase Republican criticism of John Kerry on Iraq) “he supported the tax increase before he opposed it?” Is Kilgore flip-flopping yet again? Does he simply have no clue what he’s talking about? Or does this so-called “Conservative” now support raising taxes to pay for transportation after all? I’m sure that all of these possibilities will be music to Virginians’ ears!

'BLOG' - The No. 1 Word Of The Year
Who knew...It was mainly on blogs that readers first encountered speculation that U.S. President George W. Bush wore a listening device during his first debate against Democrat John Kerry. The White House, forced to respond, called it a laughable, left-wing conspiracy theory.

McCain-Bush in 2008?
But McCain made a crucial decision to alter the relationship in 2004. Courted hard by John Kerry as a potential running mate, McCain said no. He decided he wanted to be president and that it was unlikely he would ever get a Democratic nomination — and implausible that he could win as an independent. His one shot was as a Republican.

A's for everyone
Now that the world knows that John Kerry and George Bush had almost similar grades in college, I say it isn't really that bad. Overall, both men averaged a C during their whole college careers. Both men received a few D's in some of their classes--with Kerry getting more D's than Bush which was surprising to me. They both struggled as freshmen and that's understandable. I remember that I too had a difficult time focusing on studies during my freshman year. The transition from high school was one factor, plus there were all those distractions that were just plain distracting for any red-blooded young man. But then Bush and Kerry pulled their grades up, as I did, as the years went along. Yes, theirs weren't good grades, but I still say it's not bad compared to the grade inflation rampant in many colleges these days. Yes, even in seminary there are profs who are known for grade inflation.

Dana Milbank, Bonesman
Apparently, Dana Milbank, working as a “journalist” for a corporate newspaper (owned by the late Philip Graham) that figures large in the CIA’s Operation Mockingbird (Graham: “you could get a journalist cheaper than a good call girl, for a couple of hundred dollars a month”), and is coincidentally a member of Skull and Bones should not come as a surprise. It should also not come as a surprise the CIA and the intelligence community boast a long list of bonesmen, including Bush Senior and John Kerry (see the Millegan article, linked above).

A disenfranchised view of past feelings
As Lessig writes, "so that the reality of November 3 doesn’t distort the views of where we are today", I want to record my endorsement for John Kerry. (Which is also my enblogment, as invented by Lessig, and pressed ahead by Dave Winer.)

Radio News
Goldberg, who was renounced last summer after making a lame double entendre about George W. Bush at a John Kerry fund-raiser, told Air America's "Politically Correct" host David Bender: "My party abandoned me. There's no other way to say it: they put their tails between their legs and they ran. I've closed my eyes to the party. I haven't turned my back on them, but I no longer feel comfortable saying that I feel like I'm represented by them. Until people can stand up for what's right in the face of whatever is flying at you, nothing is going to change."

The Long Shadow Of John Dewey
And one of many crucial points to draw from this is: this should be an apolitical topic. If you call yourself a progressive, and you don't know what the Port Huron statement is; or anything about John L. Lewis; or indeed who John Dewey himself was--how can you successfully argue your position? There are thousands of young Democrats who voted for John Kerry and supported his stance against the Vietnam war who never heard of William Westmoreland or the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

Mark Warner for President?
At this point, I don’t think there’s any doubt that Warner will run for President in 2008. I can’t see Warner being able to get through a Democratic presidential primary, frankly. We’re talking about a Party that nominated John Kerry and followed that up by handing the reigns over to Howard Dean.

Kerry on Downing Street
Now this is interesting. Even given my previous criticism of John Kerry, I think I’m going to have to give him a bit of credit for recently taking a stand on the Downing Street Memo. I particularly have to concur with his dismay over the media blackout concerning the media blackout on the memo, and his question of whether the reality of what the Downing Street memo says can break through the combination of media silence and American ignorance/apathy.
It is important to note that John Kerry has not mentioned the memo until now, over a month later, nor has he helped inform people via the internet. It appears that the momentum on this information is so overwhelming that John Kerry feels he will now be exposed as a do-nothing bush supporter/collaborator if he doesn’t say something. Also this shows that John Kerry knew damn well what was happening on the internet after the stolen election- he just decided not to say anything about the huge discrepency between exit polls and results and instead left the country during the election challenge)

Spending Our Children's Inheritance-No Longer a Bumper Sticker
During the second Presidential debate, John Kerry looked into the camera and pledged “No new taxes,” as did his opponent’s father in 1988—because, as the challenger, he felt he had to do so. About the same time, USA Today reported that American households are already about $500,000 in debt to meet future Social Security, Medicare, and other government commitments with no means to pay for them.

Friday Beatle blogging: Deeper Throat!
With this week's revelation that Mark Felt is "Deep Throat" I was of course reminded of Nixon's efforts to get John Lennon and Yoko Ono kicked out of the United States in 1972, and of the birthing of the Nixon White House's John Kerry-bashing devil baby, John O'Neill. I thought that linking those two topics might provide a kind of mental salve, for those of us who lived through Watergate and are remembering the outrage, as well as for those of us struggling to endure Dubya's second term.

Wing Nuts Just Make It Up
John Kerry announced Thursday that he intends to present Congress with The Downing Street Memo, reported by the London Times 1 May 2005. As reported by NewsMax, the memo purports to include minutes from a July 2002 meeting with Tony Blair, in which Blair ostensibly said that President Bush’s Administration “fixed” intelligence on Iraq in order to justify the Iraqi war. In an interview with the Standard Times, Kerry said: “It’s amazing to me the way it escaped major media discussion. It’s not being missed on the Internet, I can tell you that.”
Pinocchio Dan Rather wrote an article about this in Newsweak some time ago. Hanoi John Kerry was promised a Purple Heart if he would rant about the fairy tale and get Howie Dean involved..

Howard Dean for RNC Chair
I don't begrudge Howard Dean his craziness. It's nice that the DNC had reached out to people with mental illness, though in a surprising turn of events, I'm not sure they meant to put one in charge. John Kerry got 3 million less votes that W. Who does Dean imagine voted for Bush? Who does he think he is insulting with his 'never made an honest living in their lives' comment? If Bush got a majority of the votes, then Dean is accusing the majority of the country of making a dishonest living. He doesn't hate America though, right?

What Bias?
The top leadership of Amnesty International USA, which unleashed a blistering attack last week on the Bush administration’s handling of war detainees, contributed the maximum $2,000 to Sen. John Kerry’s presidential campaign.
Also, Joe W. “Chip” Pitts III, board chairman of Amnesty International USA, gave the maximum $2,000 allowed by federal law to John Kerry for President. Mr. Pitts is a lawyer and entrepreneur who advises the American Civil Liberties Union.
They gave the maximum amount allowed by law to John Kerry and even gave money to Ted Kennedy and one of their board members advises the ACLU.

Is America Confused?
Now, often while there may be a time frame correlation between certain events and the national mood at the time, I realize that this doesn't necessarily mean the two are related. However, if you take the time to review dates and refresh your memory with what was happening in the world at the time, expecially when so many different polls seem to have a similar answer, than it is possible to assume perhaps these events may have a relation to the answers in these polls. So, I decided to check out possible effects from the events of Sept 11th and the...

Kerry Finds God, Perfects Stump Speech
Former Presidential Candidate and current U.S. Senator John Kerry seems to be perfecting his stump speech for 2008 by appearing before friendly educators and seniors. And he seems to have learned a valuable lesson in 2004: America is a religous country. On Tuesday, he spoke with about 75 seniors in New Bedford, MA. The Standard Times reports his money line:

Holy F'ing Pants!
May 17th 2005 7:41pm my household gets a call from one of Mr. John Kerry’s fundraisers (The friends of John Kerry to be exact). Now at this point in time I was seething over the recent passing of HR1268 with the lovely RealID attached (which went through 100-0 because it was a damn military/tsunami aide bill… $80 some-odd billion!), and had a bit of a rant planned for them.
Anyway - it comes to my attention today that John Kerry is going to make some noise on Monday about this.

Will Blogging Kill our Common Culture?
The idea of "red states" and "blue states" is so seductive because it makes political analysis so very easy. But the truth is seldom so simple. It's funny that those who sneer at President Bush because he insists on seeing some things in black and white are so willing to see America as red and blue. While some places are pretty damn blue (and I'm sure there's a ward as conservative as mine is liberal somewhere deep in the heart of Texas), America is, for the most part, varying shades of purple. Did you know that 600,000 voters in New York City voted...

Vote Pair Wants Fairness?
Back during election season I signed up with an organization called Vote Pair. They said their purpose was to “not allow our flawed and undemocratic Electoral College system to nullify your right to have your vote count just because you live in a “safe” red or blue state.” Of course they then proceeded to explain how people in different states could swap votes to ensure John Kerry won the presidency. The scheme works like this. A person who lives in a “red” state but wants some third party candidate to win registers...

Republicans Support War, Not Soldiers
I seem to remember the "Good Old" Party attacking John Kerry, a Vietnam Veteran, for not voting to provide body armor for our troops overseas. His vote was definitely a protest vote for the administration's lack of information about from where funding for the war was coming. Yet, now Republicans have the gaul to not provide the thousands and thousands of troops returning home from receiving adequate health care for their service to our nation. Talk about some thanks.

Beatty and the Democrats: When will the 60s Ever End?
The fine profile of John McCain in the most recent issue of The New Yorker contains the surprising – or maybe unsurprising – information that John Kerry delegated the task of turning McCain to none other than Warren Beatty. There is something deeply wrong with a party whose presidential ticket requires the midwifery of someone like Beatty, whose claim to fame, when all is said and done, is fabulous hair and a deftness at bedding starlets. What would have come next? Would President Kerry have dispatched Dennis Hopper to ease tensions across the...

Shameful To Be Spoken About
I’m getting tired of seeing medical blowhards aggrandizing themselves with their self-important opinions regarding public figures. In recent months we’ve seen someone who may or may not have been John Kerry’s treating physician for one of his Purple Heart wounds reveal his memories of the treatment and, further, offer his opinion that Kerry is lying about the incident; a psychiatrist who has never met or interviewed George Bush has published a book claiming to offer accurate, but very unflattering, medical diagnoses of Bush, and...

Bush doesn't deserve to appear before the military. It's like the executioner gloating over the condemned. Bush doesn't know a damn thing about combat, its terror, its carnage, or the courage it demands. And his underlord muckrakers have the audacity to distract from this and allege John Kerry might not have deserved ALL THREE of his Purple Heart medals, nevermind that Bush thinks Purple Heart is just some tax write...

but on the other hand, the filibuster lives, the bush social security plan has met an ignominious end, the 'culture of life' is on life support after the schiavo mess, and people are coming to realize that iraq was a bad idea, two years too late. maybe people are realizing that whether or not john kerry or howard dean are their kind of guy, and are 'progressive', it doesn't matter, but the people in charge right now, they're hell bent on heading backwards, and nobody really wants to head backwards. so maybe there is hope.

My Throat Tickles
Why do you think Bush talks about christianity so much, why does John Kerry talk about being in touch with the working class when he cant even read the balance in his bank account because the number is so high. Thank God the founding fathers had some sense and make our goverment a struggle in which it is very hard to drasticly change anything, to bad that has slowly been eating away at. Eventualy this country will fall into entropy and fall like all the others before it, but I imagine it will be a fairly fun ride on the way there.

Two Stories
There are basically two stories on what liberals and Democrats need to espouse. Either might conceivably produce a majority movement and party. Both cannot; the competing messages simply cancel each other out. We saw the effects in 2000 and 2004 of Al Gore and John Kerry trying to take a dollop of each.

Kerry Announces 2008 Bid
It may come as no surprise, but my take on this article is that John Kerry has officially decided to run in 2008. Here are my assumptions: 1) His complete war records are less than complimentary 2) If he does run, he has to release them since that was a big issue during the last campaign and he promised to do so on Meet The Press 3) What better time to bring them out than when the media is focused on judges and Bolton 4) This gives time for damage control and will make them "old news" by 2008 and 5) If he's NOT running, there's no reason...

Never Trust The King With The Army
How John Kerry lost the election really isn't that complicated and dovetails with MY's post on Lessons Learned. Kerry can't be the candidate against unjust wars (see: Going Upriver) and also be the candidate who supported the invasion of Iraq (if only it was done properly.) In voting to pass the authority to go to war to Bush, Kerry made a political-calculus-error that proved to be his undoing. Evil genius Rove zeroed in on this, completely neutered Kerry on the topic (remember him pressing Kerry on whether he would take his vote back), and...

Bush: We Failed
The Bush administration is conducting an internal review of its failed counter-terrorism efforts. The funny thing is - except for just completely giving up on bagging Osama bin Laden - the administration's new plan will most likely be the same plan that John Kerry fought for on the campaign trail and that Democrats in Congress are trying to implement through legislation (a poor substitute for dynamic executive leadership, but it's clearly having an effect).

But we also know that she will have a better campaign strategist working for her than John Kerry ever did, and that guy will be out for payback and will never let what happened to Kerry happen to her.

They ARE Speaking Out
But in truth doesn't the fault primarily lie with our illustrious media? The same media that accepted the propaganda that led us to the Iraq quagmire. That gave the Swift Boat Vets all the free PR they could ask for to slander and lie about John Kerry's military career. That time and time again has dropped the ball regarding, or simply ignored, stories of Bush's deceits and Republican scandals like Gannongate, Valerie Plame, The Medicaire Prescription Drug Boondoggle, the Downing Street Minutes, Tom Delay's ethics, ad infinitum.

Thoughts on the Gates' Intellectual Dissonance
"Though the younger Gates and CEO Steve Ballmer last year each gave the Bush campaign $2,000 (and John Kerry nothing), and the company's political action committee gave 54 percent of its donations to Republicans ($5,000 to Bush, nothing to Kerry), the company says it backs candidates regardless of party."

WHAT IF THE PARANOIDS ARE RIGHT?
Very interesting.Yes, I was one of the ones who was so scammed. I knew most of George Bushs domestic policies were appalling, especially in the context of our ever-more-outsourced, ever-more-deteriorating economy but todays fern-bar Democrats, in their infinite scorn of the blue-collar class and the poor, could not trouble themselves to offer anything better. Hence I reasoned that neither party would substantially alter the domestic socioeconomic status quo. And I therefore voted for George Bush for one reason and one reason only: national defense. I believed...

The REAL Mrs. John Kerry
Following is a brief background on Mrs. John Kerry. She hates being called that, by the way. According to the G2 Bulletin, an online intelligence newsletter of WorldNetDaily, in the years between 1995-2001 she gave more than $4 million to an organization called the Tides Foundation. And what does the Tides Foundation do with John Heinz's money?

either you have evidence or you don't
Very interesting. One would think that at this point, Art would realize he'd just taken the legs out from under his own belief in the liberal indoctrination of teachers. But no, he seems to think he's won the argument. He throws in a great deal of rant about John Kerry, for good measure. (You see, the problem with Kerry and his followers is that they lack sufficient honesty. Unlike, you know, Bush.) And he seems to think calling me a zombie is a particularly clever insult. Gee, I hope that nickname doesn't stick.

Keep honking, I'm reloading.
Today, I saw a sticker that said, ‘You can’t be catholic and be pro-abortion’. Of course, this was next to a Bush/Cheney sticker and was meant to be a slap at John Kerry’s personal faith. But the last time I checked you can’t be catholic and be pro-death penalty, pro-Iraq war, or believe that the universe revolves around anything but the earth.. or have they changed that now?

VP Debate
Even as a biased Republican, I'd admit that John Kerry won the first presidential debate. However, I'd have to say Dick Cheney clearly won the Vice presidential debate last night. Especially the part on foreign policy. I think Chris Matthews, a liberal MSNBC reporter, said it best, "I think the analogy would be a water pistol against a machine gun. Every once in a while, Edwards would take a squirt at the vice president, and then the vice president would just turn the Howitzer on the guy." My favorite part started when...

All of this is absent from the world Edwards describes on the campaign trail. It is absent from the populist worldview lately embraced by John Kerry. President Bush’s compassionate conservative agenda, which was based on the idea that conduct matters most, remains unfulfilled.

What’s really interesting is that Frist himself voted nay. That could be for one of two reasons: He’s getting ready to withdraw the nomination altogether, or he’s terrified of John Kerry and Harry Reid, and is stalling to allow the documents requested by the Dems to be produced.

The Next Karl Rove
Michael Whouley is perhaps the most sought after operative in Democratic politics. He famously turned around Iowa for John Kerry in 2004, and in 2000, he called Al Gore to tell him he could win Florida and to retract his concession call. That prompted the recount. “The Field General” is notoriously publicity shy – we’re not even showing his picture in our gallery. Whouley got his start in local Boston politics and has since worked on five presidential campaigns.

Kerry finally signs on
Better late than never was our reaction to Joan Vennochi’s Boston Globe column on Tuesday. More than 100 days after he promised to do so, Sen. Released To Who?
Blogs for Bush and CQ are reporting that Sen. John Kerry has finally signed a SF-180 for for the release of the balance of his military records.
As a veteran myself, I know that ones records can be released to whomever you choose them to be released. Knowing “Johnny Nuance", I wonder whether those records will be released directly to the public, or released to a John Kerry friendly entity such as “MoveOn.org” or perhaps his own reelection campaign.

GOP not settling for 11% of the black vote
It is a matter of when, not if, the Democrats' share of black votes will fall significantly below the stunningly high 90% they need to even be competitive in presidential elections. There are today large numbers of African Americans who voted for John Kerry despite holding Republican positions on issues like school vouchers, abortion, gay marriage, and moral values. Republicans will do everything they can to drive home the point that if black voters look beyond party labels to the issues they care most about, many of them will switch their votes...
It is remarkable how a largely secular Democratic Party has for so long enjoyed the loyalty of a largely Christian black electorate. While Democratic presidential candidates routinely campaign in black churches, there is a growing dissonance between the values of the Democratic Party and those of many church-going blacks. Few things were more awkward during the 2004 campaign than John Kerry quoting Scripture to black congregations. It is not who he is and it is not what the Democratic Party has become. In contrast, Republicans embrace the language...

"Hell yeah I'm American"
When John Kerry promised to make America "stronger at home and more respected abroad" I think many voters heard what Reagan warned about, the only course of action guaranteed to eliminate conflict quickly: surrender (in this case to European public opinion opposed to the Iraq War.)

What Democrats have to do to win again
While I believe Hanson's analysis to be correct, I don't think Democratic weakness at the presidential level should be overstated. For all the problems of the Democratic Party, which Hanson skillfully dissects, John Kerry still got 48% of the popular vote which suggest it would not take much to give them a majority. Anyone interested in US politics has surely taken a shot at the question "What would the Democrats have to do to win?" as I did here back in January.
Until Democrats promote someone who barks out something like, "We can and will win in Iraq," or, "Let the word go out: An attack on the United States originating from a rogue state is synonymous with its own destruction," or some such unguarded and perhaps slightly over-the-top statement, I don't think that the American people will entrust their safety to the party. John Kerry, to be frank, is no Harry Truman, and time is running out for Hillary Clinton to morph into Scoop Jackson.

China may want a nuclear North Korea
I noted here that one can infer from the fact that China has not used its considerable influence with North Korea to stop its nuclear program that China is not terribly concerned about North Korean nukes. Brown's willingness to engage with this difficult reality makes his analysis vastly superior to the North Korea nonsense put forth by people like John Kerry, George Bush, Fred Kaplan, and Jason T. Shaplen and James Laney. Brown speculates that China's real goal is to strike a grand bargain with the US in which China gets North Korea to give up its nukes in exchange for a US withdrawal from South Korea and/or American passivity in case of a Chinese military attack on Taiwan.

Blood for oil indeed
This really puts things in a different light, doesn't it? It turns out John Kerry was right when he spoke of a "coalition of the bribed, the coerced, the bought, and the extorted". But it was not the American coalition of willing countries like the UK, Australia, Denmark, Poland, and Our friends in Albania. It was Russia, France, and China who were on the take from Saddam and therefore pulled every diplomatic lever at their disposal to prevent the ouster of their paymaster in Baghdad.
Shining Right has sorted through the UN Oil For Food investiagation and found some interesting (and ironic) tidbits: [...] It turns out John Kerry was right when he spoke of a [Read More]

Off track or never on?
I have a different concern. What about Howard Dean? In early 2004 he was the surprise favorite. Until there were actual primaries. John Kerry went from front runner, to surprising also-ran back to front runner. Isn't anyone the least bit skeptical about the short time that Dr. Dean was the front runner?

My Thoughts on the filibuster compromise
Did I just watch the entire Republican party stick their neckties into the papershredder in hope that someday, maybe, the Democrats will be "nice to them" when they lose the Congress? Moreover, in my judgment you completely jumped the gun in paranoia. You admitted outright that you were expecting right-wing hackery from Fox. Your liberal bias didn’t even let you finish listening to the segment where I was promoting a left-wing position (although John Kerry is an awful prohibitionist). In order for your argument to be correct, I would have to establish a track record. Forgive me, but I do not think two segments qualifies as a body of work by which to appropriately judge. The irony of the timing of your call reveals...

ON THE LEFT, BOB SCHIEFFER
As with the super-majority example noted above, the best part of this was what it said about Schieffer's view of Hillary; namely, that she is at heart a radical liberal who will appoint judges who transform traditional American culture. He used Hillary - not John Kerry, not Howard Dean, Hillary - as the scariest person who, from a conservative perspective, could occupy the Oval Office. So much for Hillary's vaunted movement to the center.

New Column: Proactive Judicial Activism
This quote immediately reveals two things about Dean's (and the Left's) mindset concerning the judicial appointment issue. First, as I correctly asserted in a very recent column, Democrats seem to think they are entitled, as a minority party, to have their own judges appointed in proportion to the popular vote percentage their losing candidate (John Kerry) received in the election. Based on Dean's rants and other things I've read, I don't think I'm drawing an extreme inference.

Burnt
The project for which I sacrificed my epidermis involved--surprise!--my garden. Like always. I salvaged the framework from two cheap POS greenhouses we'd gotten some time back. The clear plastic covering was as flimsy as John Kerry's integrity and failed to stand up to the fierce Texas weather. Being a pack-rat, we never threw away the aluminum pipes and plastic connectors that made up the frames. In fact the shelving from one is sitting in my studio now, used to hold my more delicate carnivorous plants. The rest sat in the carport for a few months...

It is Getting Heated Out There
The left is in a free-fall. The socialist-commune hippie children of the 60's are running the Democratic Party. Their only view of the US and our use of the military was the Vietnam War (I think John Kerry is a veteran of this war, but I am not sure) and maybe the Korean War. The Democrats butchering of the management of both wars is truly one for the ages. So a liberal's whole outlook on our military is that they are bullies and losers -even though it was Democrat politicians responsible for the defeats.

The Museum of Earth History
Who knew...Creationism has found one high-level voice. President George Bush famously proclaimed: 'The jury is still out on evolution.' A CBS survey late last year showed that 45 per cent of Bush voters wanted creationism taught in schools instead of evolution, compared to 24 per cent of voters for John Kerry. 'Under the Bush presidency, we are clearly able to get a lot more done,' Sharp said.

Furthering his war against the "Bush agenda," in November of 2004, Lieberman posted his phone number to the internet calling for volunteers to assist MoveOn, the ultra-left group which was working to get Senator John Kerry elected President of the United States.Lieberman has, in the past, posted his political commentaries on Marxist websites. In one post of a letter he had written to convince people to help free imprisoned Haitians, he addresses his readers as "Comrades and Friends."

Reflections on my early life and origins
As I just told you, my parents got divorced. But before that, I lived with them in a home they owned. As I said, it was the upper-middle-middle-class suburbs (as I like to call them) on Long Island. They sent me to private school for some bizarre reason - I honestly don’t know why, it’s not like we lived in the ghetto or they were rich. We were…well off, and we got more and more well off as time went on (at least my father did,) but far from rich. Perhaps, today, my father can be described as rich, as he makes around what would...

Democrats Investigating Whether Bolton Had Affair with Paula Abdul

I am flabbergasted that an ex-antiestablishmentarianist like John Kerry would call into question President Bush’s military record. What are these campaigns coming to? You've been scammed
Guess what, Republicans? You've been scammed. At the end of the Cold War, the Reagan administration requested cuts in military spending. You ought to remember that - those were the cuts that John Kerry voted for, that the Karl Rove Smear Machine ruined him with last year. During the Clinton years, military spending continued its slow decline, as per the recommendations of the previous administrations. And what did the right-wing do? Constantly whine about how Clinton was hurting the military. Then, as soon as George W. Bush came into power, well...
At 5:00 p.m. Eastern time on Election Day, I checked the sportsbook odds in Las Vegas and via the offshore bookmakers to see the odds as of that moment on the Presidential election. John Kerry was a two-to-one favorite. You can look it up.
People who have lived in the sports world as I have, bettors in particular, have a feel for what I am about to say about this: these people are extremely scientific in their assessments. These people understand which information to trust and which indicators to consult in determining where to place a dividing line to influence bets, and they are not in the business of being completely wrong. Oddsmakers consulted exit polling and knew what it meant and acknowledged in their oddsmaking at that moment that John Kerry was winning the election.

BRAC finals
Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., condemned the proposal to close Otis Air National Guard Base on Cape Cod, saying, “Otis is the number one base for homeland defense on the entire East Coast. … It simply makes no sense to close Otis in the post 9/11 world.”

Star Wars & the Freepers: Right Idea, Wrong War
Both the reviewer, and the fretful wingnuts in the righty blogosphere, are, to put it mildly, wrong. Oh, not that there aren't some parallels, mind you, but George Lucas would have needed to be remarkably prescient to foresee Shrubbery and the Iraq war, back when John Kerry had just lost his first Congressional race, and Shrubbery was snorting cocaine and ducking out of Texas Air National Guard training assignments. Don't believe me? Well, I've got to believe that Lucas himself would know what his motivations were:

Fun with endangering your tax-exempt status
The New York Times today takes a look at that community down in North Carolina where the preacher had to step down after kicking John Kerry supporters out of his flock. I'm actually not that happy to gloat in the story (it looks mostly like a small rural town being torn asunder, and that's about it) but the story has a surprising amount of interesting subplots. Here's one:
Mr. Chandler told members: "The question then comes in the Baptist Church, 'How do I vote?'; let me just say this right now, if you vote for John Kerry this year you need to repent or resign. You have been holding back God's church way too long."

Let's Review
"I'm going to be real positive, while I keep my foot on John Kerry's throat," George W. Bush said last month at a confidential luncheon a block away from the White House with a hundred or so of his most ardent, longtime supporters, the so-called R.N.C. Regents.

Tagging best practice:
I'm having an issue using del.icio.us for categories and technorati tags in blogger, because technorati allows multi-word tags and del.icio.us will only allow single words. I have hyphenated (geek alert) star-trek, sci-fi and how-to. I guess that the tags are of limited use, though, if we're all doing different things. John-Kerry, JohnKerry, John Kerry & all his various capitalisations and mis-spellings.
It is an interesting thread, esp. given that some software allows multi-word tags & some only single words. How do you connect words into a phrase? When is it important to be consistent? For me the point of tags as search terms is to find all posts on a subject (and to list my posts on a subject along with everyone else's.) I can be individual in the categories to this blog, because I'm only linking my posts to my other posts. On Technorati and the wider del.icio.us, though, I want my posts to appear next to everyone else's, so I really should...

ingenious trickery:
John Kerry will continue to insinuate that there was massive voter fraud at his expense in Ohio, not because there was or that he expects the results would have changed, but to help him in 2008 when he runs for the presidency again so he can play the victim card by blaming his loss in 2004 on a Republican conspiracy and try to siphon off voters from his Democrat challengers.

A pastor of a Church who kicked out Kerry-voters resigns.
Who knew...Rev. Chan Chandler, a Baptist pastor at the East Waynesville Baptist Church, announced that anyone that voted for John Kerry in the 2004 Presidential Election has resigned from his Church. Thank God (no pun intended).

Read the entire article.Did anyone notice last week thatevery U.S. Senator voted to provide funding to continue the war in Iraq. John Kerry, the man who opposed the $87b supplemental before the war, voted yes last week. What gives? Answer: It's an orchestrated effort by Democrats!
Many of the Democrats who opposed funding the war before the election support doing so now. This storywas big, but the media ignored it. The mainstream media continues to ignore the story becausethe last thing it wants to do iscriticize Democrats for playing politics with national security -- which is exactly what John Kerry accused President Bush of doing during the campaign.

Southern Baptists Send Mixed Messages Over Decision By North Carolina Pastor To Expel Democrats
I wish the democrats really stuck by the principles they purport to support. But I remember Bill Clinton signing the horrible welfare reform bill and John Kerry voting to invade Iraq. I may vote for the democrats most of the time but they’re are not many that I have faith in. A few, but not many. I have two framed pictures of politicians in my house: former democratic presidential candidate and activist Jesse Jackson and former Oregon Governor and republican Tom McCall. Even some Republicans can be good.
There are interesting comments on this subject. First, the North Carolina pastor who supposedly asked some of his congregants to leave based on their November vote is out of line - I think any rational person (left and right) agrees with that. However, why does this obviously isolated incident give way to another verbal attack on the 'religious right?' Must every story be cause for 'alarm that a theocracy that's being imposed on us(!)?' Rev. Jesse Jackson has campaigned in churches, largely African-American, for years, literally telling people...
I guess I'm not familiar with a 'church' endorsing a candidate. Most of the pastors that I've heard literally ENDORSE a candidate have tended to be African-American congregations after a visit by a Democratic candidate. There was an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch last year that mentioned pastors chastising their congregants because 'some of you might be voting' for conservative politicians; there was a concern that many African-Americans might not vote Democratic due to their opposition of the same-sex marriage issue. Archbishop Raymond...
You many have misinterpreted my comments on the editorials. Newspapers across the country cried 'foul' when Archbishop Raymond Burke said that John Kerry wouldn't be able to take communion because of his 'pro-choice' stance ('Catholic Church involved in politics', etc.). Newspapers were very comfortable (and editorialized so), with the stance that the Archbishop took in 1962 when he refused communion to politicians who were segregationists. My only point is that the editorialists were/are selective on the issues that they consider 'bridge' politics...

Giliard is on it
The real problem is that Harry Reid isn’t Tom Daschle. He’s playing for keeps, so if they can tie him down with this nonsense, all the better for them. See, Reid isn’t widely known outside of the blogs and politics. So if they can define him like they did John Kerry, they can limit his effectiveness.

Depending on whom the Democrats decide to nominate, Allen’s race could be one of the marquee races in the nation. Although Virginia is conservative, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) performed well here in 2004, and Warner is himself mentioned as a possible Democratic candidate for president.

Fracas over political pastor reaches CNN
Last weekend, CNN ran a story about a Baptist church in Waynesville, NC, that supposedly ousted nine church members because they did not vote for John Kerry. The pastor of the church has resigned over the incident, and as both sides involved begin to tell their stories, the facts do not seem to bear out the rather simplistic take on the story as reported by CNN.
And consider this: Democrats have made a career out of campaigning in Black churches during election seasons. PowerLine blog documented three separate events that were sponsored by the John Kerry campaign and held in Black churches. Here are a few photos (also courtesy of PowerLine):

Charlie Hurt, a Hack, Hacks & Misses
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry spent the past week hawking a tough national-security image to convince voters that he can be trusted to aggressively fight the war on terrorism, calling it the "greatest threat" facing America today. But less than six months ago, the Massachusetts senator said in a televised debate that the Bush administration had exaggerated the threat posed by terrorism.

Senator Kerry Does Not Do a 180
Massachussettes's haughty, French-looking, Flippedy-Floppedy-ing Senator, John Kerry, has still not signed his SF-180 form. This is a release form that allows the military to release all the records they have for a previous service member.

John Kerry and Democratic Party Unity
Now, fast forward a few weeks and what do I see happening over at DailyKos, by far the most popular Democratic blog on the internet? A veritable Kerry bash fest, started by none other than “Kos” himself. Here’s an extended excerpt from Kos’ latest piece, “How I feel about John Kerry”:
This post by Kos, by the way, generated a TON of comments — nearly 800 as of this morning — and a TON of heated commentary. Basically, the comments divide about as follows: 1) a sizeable contingent supporting Kos’ bashing of Kerry, with some even more critical of the good Senator; 2) another sizeable group basically agreeing with Kos on his critique, but arguing that “it’s time to move on” and that Kerry bashing is destructive to the Democratic Party (as well as a sign of weakness and the “circular firing...
I find this discussion fascinating — and a bit troubling — on several levels. First, I sometimes wonder where the passion, pro- or anti-Kerry, is coming from exactly, given that Kerry was one of the most passionLESS candidates I can remember. Second, I wonder why Kerry is running for President again, in fact why he never STOPPED running for President, even one minute after his loss to George W. Bush this past November. Third, I REALLY wonder what Democrats in Virginia think of John Kerry. A priori, I would have expected that Virginia...
Personally, I am a moderate/progressive, Wesley Clark Democrat, but I am first and foremost a loyal Democrat, so I find this last option to be worrisome and self-destructive. Of course, I will fight for my preferred candidate during the primaries, but I will then support the nominee of our party when it is decided. After the election is over, my loyalty to that candidate — John Kerry, for instance — is over, and I will go back to fighting for what (and who) I believe in.

Thou Shalt Not Think For Thyself
Church member Lewis Inman said to the Asheville station: "[Chandler] told us that if we didn't support George Bush we needed to resign our position and get out, or go to the altar and repent, and support George Bush." Among the ex-communicated were leaders who had been in the church 30 or 40 years. "The members that were there even stood up and applauded that we left," an outgoing church member said. Former member Frank Lowe told WLOS: "He says if we supported John Kerry, we have supported abortion and homosexuality."

100 Days
Today marks 100 days since John Kerry promised, on national TV, to sign form SF-180 and release his military records.
During the 2004 campaign, John Kerry made his service in Vietnam the foundation of his campaign, and he attacked President Bush’s service. There are many unanswered questions about Kerry’s service that the American people deserve to have answered. John Kerry has the power to have all these questions answered, simply by signing Standard Form 180.

John Kerry: An Endless Source of Amusement?
Maybe we should set the Sandia Lab folks onto the task of seeing whether we could harness the collective mirth generated by each latest pronouncement of John Kerry. We could have an easy source of unlimited energy.
The Boston Globe reports that John Kerry has transformed himself into that most hackneyed of political clichés, the "outsider" candidate, despite having spent the last twenty years in Washington DC. Using the hilarious notion of turning a twenty-year career in the Senate into outsider street cred, Kerry insists on firing up crowds by talking about how Washington ignores the little people...

Reid tells Frist to bring it on...
Every moment from this one forward that the Frist doesn't bring this to a vote, it highlights just how weak his party is and how badly they are losing on this issue. The beauty is, Frist can't jump right in or compromise at all because 2008 is looming, and his ticket as Christ's Crusader lies in the balance. If he appears to the Religious Right to be the kind of person who buckles or compromises, he's done. (Side note: I personally hope Frist is the nominee in 2008... He's the Republican version of John Kerry except he's saddled...

A Few More Random Thoughts
The recent attempt to make it illegal for politicians to employ “anti-gay rhetoric” in political discourse is the latest in the great unfolding hypocrisy of the “tolerance” community. It is also interesting to note that John Kerry could well be the first to be muzzled (or would that be “muzzied”?) after his recent remarks about same gender marriage in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This is a defining confluence (or is it a head-on collision?) for both the Senator (and 2008 presidential aspirant) and the Gay & Lesbian coalition....

Edwards Distances Himself From 2004 As He Readies For 2008
With John Kerry making noises about trying to recreate himself as an outsider candidate for 2008 and distance himself from the gay marriage issue, and with the mainstream media anointing Hillary already as the nominee-in-waiting, John Edwards is selling his home in the Washington area and returning to North Carolina. He is also being candid about who he blames for the Kerry/Edwards campaign’s inability to take an energized Democratic base and stay ahead of an all-terror, all-the-time incumbent: it’s all Mary Beth Cahill’s fault.

The Jihad Continues
For many residents of this hamlet nestled in the Smoky Mountains, nothing is as important as church. That’s why nine longtime members of East Waynesville Baptist Church are so devastated after being kicked out of the congregation for, they say, supporting Democrat John Kerry’s presidential bid.
But the question then comes in, in the Baptist Church, how do I vote? Let me just say this right now: If you vote for John Kerry this year, you need to repent or resign.

Talk about a sore winner. The election was 6 months ago, and he's still going on about John Kerry. You won, we get it, lets leave the poor man alone unless he actually tries to run again, it's a little to early to go on and on about him.
Not sure what you're objecting to at my blog - it's called Decision '08. It focuses on the 2008 election. John Kerry is already 'unofficially' positioning himself for a 2008 run. The New York Times and many other major media outlets have run several articles recently indicating the same. So I'm a sore winner? I don't follow the logic...but thanks for the link.

Lileks on McCain
It will probably never happen, but I would love to see McCain challenged in a primary in Arizona. After all, George W. Bush stomped John Kerry in that state - getting 55 percent of the vote to Kerry's 44. McCain's refusal to support the president goes against the wishes of his constituents who overwhelmingly voted for George W. Bush. I hope all the hours and pages of glowing press McCain has gotten over the years was worth it. McCain's mindless contrarianism has lost him the respect of those who will choose the next Republican nominee for president.

Pastors and Politics
One can have strong beliefs about politics, but it would take a real stretch of this passage to believe that voting for John Kerry counts as a sin against your brother. Andrew Sullivan, predictably, quotes this story in his increasingly petty "Fundamentalism Watch," but for some reason doesn't include this little factoid, which helps put the controversy in a better perspective:

A vote for Kerry is a vote for the devil!
What does admitting that you voted for John Kerry get you at the East Waynesville Baptist Church in North Carolina? It gets you kicked out, that's what. Pastor Chandler Chandler (never trust a guy with two first names) led the charge against nine churchgoers who voted Democrat in 2004.
Members of the congregation said Chandler told them during last year's presidential campaign that anyone who planned to vote for Democratic nominee John Kerry needed to leave the church.

Magical accounting
of the places listed only "virginia" can be regarded as right/republican leaning. i am willing to believe most american south asians who vote voted for john kerry (as i myself did FYI), but i think it is likely that (for example) south asians in texas or georgia are more likely to be republican. people are influenced by their neighbors.

John Kerry, Outsider
This morning's Boston Globe has a puff-piece about John Kerry (isn't THAT a surprise) as he positions himself for another run for the presidency in 2008. It seems that Kerry is trying to position himself as the outsider, challenging the Washington establishment on behalf of the little man.

Fruity Koo-Koo Puffs Take Issue With Kerry Remarks
John Kerry came out strongly against homosexual marriage Friday, prompting "respectful disagreement" among the "insert Tab-A into Slot-A" crowd:
"A homosexual advocacy group within the Democratic Party said Friday that they 'strongly disagree' with Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) over whether the Massachusetts arm of the party should put a 'same-sex marriage' plank in its official platform.

OH FOR GOD'S SAKE . . .
Finally, there is no demonstrated causal relationship whatsoever between the lack of bilateral discussions and the potential ascension of North Korea to the nuclear club. None. Does anyone really believe that if the Bush Administration acceded to the demands for bilateral talks, the North Koreans would even think about giving up nuclear weapons? Does anyone really think that if Al Gore or John Kerry were in charge, the North Koreans would forego their desire for a nuclear program? I realize that it is nice and fun to bash George W. Bush over at Political Animal, but can we have some facts interspersed with the bashing please?

what is this world coming to?
I thought about posting my usual "Fruitcake" label for this one, but I'm just too disgusted to be funny. Nine people at a church in North Carolina were expelled after it was learned that they hadn't voted for President Bush in 2004. To be honest, I'm at a bit of loss for words. What happened to our ability to keep politics and religion separate in this country? I mean, does this pastor really believe that this is what Jesus would do? I'm not a New Testament scholar by any means, but I just don't get the feeling that Jesus would kick someone...

torture not topic: how to be a successful ass-kisser is
Well, there is no relativism in politics. Torture is torture and in the hands of this Catholic who said that in light of "the worldwide impact of the late Pope John Paul II, Gonzales said the graduates should not shrink from setting high goals" he neglected to mention that the Pope opposed the war, the death penalty, and torture. Why is it that he gets to be the good Catholic while he opposes his church's teachings while John Kerry and company are bad Catholics when they support women and gay rights?

They'll Never Be Accused of Being Wal-Smart
The problem is that if Wal-Mart capriciously raised wages, it would be an artificial propping of prices in the labor market no better than the raising of the minimum wage. Higher Wal-wages would create a new retail standard, and other competitors (those same ones being "protected" by the scholars) would then be forced to follow suit lest they lose their best workers. Since they are purportedly lean already due to Wal-competition, the only recourse will be to raise the pay and reduce the number of positions. Fewer jobs = bad; I learned that from...

Democrats Announce World Series of Poker to Determine 2008 Presidential Candidate
"I think this method of selecting a candidate will be effective," said Dean. "We need someone who really knows how to bluff. Who can lie and have people believe it. Look at John Kerry. No one believed his Vietnam stories or that he really had a plan for anything. He was a terrible bluffer and will likely be eliminated on the first day of the tournament."

How not to win political debates
I did a few additional searches just for curiosity and what I found was, indeed, curious. Tom DeLay seems to be about the only politician/official with ads running against him. George Bush, Condi Rice, Dick Cheney, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, Alberto Gonzalez didn’t have any ads that were negative toward them. They were either positive or essentially neutral (news sites, etc.).

Culture of Life?
One thing that sociological theory has noticed over the last thirty years or so is that in this late modern world, a lot of formerly rigid barriers between public and private have been eroding and blurring with ever greater speed. The paradigmatic case is obviously desecularisation - and one of its chief manifestations the inability to separate public ethics from private morals. It used to be the case that Catholic politicians and doctors would distinguish between their private religious beliefs and their public responsibilities - a position upheld...

Help the aged
Who knew...A brief moment of deja vu passed when, earlier during the rally, a Tory candidate for parliament insisted to the audience that "help was on the way". Help was on the way for school teachers, and pensioners, and so on. The phrase was a staple of the ill-fated John Kerry campaign. Not saying that it won't work in Britain. It just simply added to the feeling that history was about to repeat itself, half a world away.
History is not about to repeat itself, Mr. Kos. History is about to be made, and it will have nothing to do with John Kerry or George Bush.

That 70's Ball
This years ball was titled, "That 70's Ball," and as you can imagine it was based on the 70's. Yep, the era of Disco, Nixon, McGovern, the end of the Vietnam war, John Kerry's high point, gas lines, the bicentennial, and Carter. Despite all of these memories the ball was quite a blast, including the period costumes worn by attendees.

I'm in the news, kinda
Supporters of Howard Dean, Dennis Kucinich, and the other former Democratic contenders face a big decision: Jump on a new bandwagon or retreat from presidential politics. For many, their newfound activism is too strong to shake, even if it means supporting John Kerry, whom they see as an imperfect candidate, but one still better than President Bush.
Other Dean supporters contend that Kerry is a fine candidate, thank you very much. “If you look at Kerry’s record, he votes for the things I care about,” said Zada True-Courage. “I was not excited about John Kerry, but I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t support him.”

Hillary Clinton Versus John Kerry In The Democratic Sweepstakes
But, clearly, the two biggest factors are going to be Mrs. Clinton's move to the center and Kerry's trying to convince Democrats that they need to put their time, effort and money into him running again because he deserves another shot. And John Kerry may find it difficult, no matter how he positions himself or what he doesn't do or does.

THOSE CRAZY LIBERALS AT BW . . .
During the ‘04 campaign, Bush successfully portrayed Democrat John Kerry as a liberal dilettante who was out of touch with common folk and tailored his policy positions to the latest political fashion. Well, nobody is accusing Bush of trying to be on the right side of public opinion in recent months. People feel strongly about the economy and health care, and they hear a debate in Washington that’s focusing on judges, a brain-damaged Florida woman, and Social Security. The trouble for Bush is that voters disagree with his handling of...

A Wasted Vote
Those of us that support progressive candidates and ideals spent time after the election reflecting on what went wrong. Adding insult to injury, my uncle asked at Christmas if I was planning on “wasting” my vote on Hillary Clinton in 2008, since I had wasted my vote on John Kerry. Although I’m not sure that one had anything to do with the other, the fact that my uncle wanted to discuss politics with me (however casually) was interesting in and of itself. This isn’t a guy who had EVER discussed politics in my presence, and...
Just between you, me, and anybody related to me that might still be reading this entry, the real family scandal would have been if I had revealed to my conservative family that my traditionally conservative mother, had also voted for John Kerry.

Dems Offer Real Solutions For War On Terror
Read the entire article. In recent years the Democratic party has been branded as soft on terrorists by, among others, Republicans, men, toddlers and terrorists. John Kerry's statement during the 2004 presidential campaign, that we should "fight a...more sensitive war on terror", did little to change this perception. Neither did the fact that the Democrats offered nothing in the way of real solutions. Until now.

I have followed some of the events that have taken place at the now concluded Democratic National Convention held at the Fleet Center in Boston. I watched as the Democratic Presidential nominee saluted and told his loyal followers “I’m John Kerry and I’m reporting for duty.” Kerry reminded me that he and Bush are two faces of the same beast that the citizens will get to vote for in November. They are using the same careful controls, the same rhetoric and subversion of justice. It seems that the hippies of the last generation...

Re-fighting the war over the war
By my count, the Bolton confirmation process marks the fourth time the Dems have fought about whether or not we should go to war in Iraq: first, before the war; second, right after the war; third, in the run-up to the election; and now fourth, with the drive-by smear of John Bolton. The Left waged a desperate campaign to convince the American people that Iraq was the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time. They failed. The Left practiced instant revisionist history and tried to convince Americans that they somehow had been duped into going to war. They failed again. Then last November, the Left rallied behind previous war supporter John Kerry, who became anti-war (most days) and argued that Bush and Cheney “were wrong and soldiers lost their lives because they were wrong.’ Well, we know how that effort ended.
Despite three times not being a charm, the Dems are back at it for one more go-round — but the great irony is that Bolton had hardly anything to do with Iraq. Par for his tenure at State, Bolton was completely frozen out by Powell, Armitage, and the Foreign Service, and consequently had no real impact on Iraq policy. The Dems, though, do their best to conflate the issue by accusing him of “politicizing intelligence” on WMDs — but with respect to Cuba, not Iraq. But how could Bolton have “politicized” intel when he issued the same public assessment as Carl “conservative to the core, but not too conservative to cut checks for Charlie Rangell and John Kerry” Ford? One more question the Dems will never answer.

A campaign against the Aegis contract launched by Irish-American lobby group, the Irish National Caucus, has earned significant support in Washington. Senators including Ted Kennedy, Hilary Clinton and John Kerry wrote to Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld last August calling for an investigation.

Kerry: Ratzinger Papal Election is 'No Mandate'
"This is not a time for narrow ideologues, or dogmatists," said Sen. John Kerry, D-MA. "I'm praying that the new Holy Father -- despite his reputation as God's Rottweiller -- will realize his duty to be a big-tent guy. And he should never take what is an article of faith for him, personally, and try to impose it on others."
reactionary, dogmatic old man," lamented John Kerry, himself accused of a flip-flop, charges that he still denies.

Give me your money
I was shocked, simply shocked.Leading the fight is the National Education Association, a union of 2.7 million members and a political adversary of the administration. The union mobilized its forces for Democrat John Kerry in the 2004 presidential race, and its objections to Bush’s law prompted former Education Secretary Rod Paige to call the NEA a “terrorist organization.”

Koranheit 9:11
This was concluded by an emotional plea to forward the email to everyone in my address book unless I so ungrateful for Jesus’ sacrifice that I couldn’t find three seconds in my day to spread junk mail. How lucky I was to find this in my spam folder! I think it’s much better than all those election season emails about John Kerry being the anti-christ.

New pontiff splits Catholics in U.S.?
Likewise, he played an important role in last year's dispute over whether Catholic politicians who favor abortion rights, such as Sen. John Kerry and Gov. Jennifer Granholm, should be denied Holy Communion. The cardinal said that while bishops could withhold it, they should meet with, teach and warn politicians first. Ratzinger also said that voters would be guilty of "cooperating in evil" if they backed a candidate specifically because he or she supports abortion rights.

Bob Dole Calls Out NPR
‘Fresh Air Interview - 04/12/2005 - Advice To John Kerry’ (4mb .mp3, 64Khz mono)
Here’s a fun excerpt from Bob Dole’s recent appearance on NPR’s ‘Fresh Air.’ I’ve never been much of a Bob Dole fan, I thought he was a lame senator and an even lamer candidate for President. However, after hearing this interview I gained a bit of respect for the man. Former Senator Dole was on Fresh Air to promote his new memoir : ‘One Soldiers Story : A Memoir’ but Terry Gross kept asking him questions...
Here’s the bit about Kerry, where Dole weighs in on Kerry’s service and its effect on the failure of his campaign. This part of the transcript is in the “Full” and “Advice To John Kerry” files above.
T: Being a veteran and being injured in the war was such a life changing experience for you, so some people were surprised that you became one of the people who criticized John Kerry for his military service during the period of the Swift Boat Campaign against him. You said “Three Purple Hearts and he never bled that I know of, I mean, they’re all superficial wounds. Three Purple Hearts and you’re out.” How did you decide whether to say anything and then what to say about Kerry’s service during the 2004 Presidential...

Pope a la Conservative: Benedict XVI
Well, I've read a few articles and these are some of the excerpts I picked up on. Chuck Schumer is beside himself, and John Kerry can't be all that happy. George Bush winning 56% of the Catholic vote should put the fear of God in all Dimocrats. And, merely changing the ways one talks about an issue and not changing the way one votes is disingenuous. Everyday we live our lives as Christians, as Catholics, as Muslims. It should guide us, that is what makes us unique, otherwise we are hypocrites.

John Kerry - Sign the SF 180
John Kerry said he would sign the Standard Form 180 to release his complete military personnel file. In other words, he made a promise. Is he going to break this promise too?
Write his press office and ask them why John Kerry has left another promise unfulfilled.

afternoon delight
I won't go into details (you can read the news story linked above or other informed assessments posted here and here, found via our good friend Waveflux). But I will tell you that the meeting was rather contentious, voices were raised several times, lame charts were presented, a major plot twist unfolded, and committee chairman Dick Lugar (R-IN) got his ass handed to him after trying to hurriedly push through a vote. Oh, and John Kerry droned on and on and on, and I didn't think he'd ever shut up.

"Labor leaders see the new effort as retaliation for their nearly unanimous support for Senator John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election. Vast support for Mr. Kerry came from the A.F.L.-C.I.O., which has been informed by the department that it will be one of the first national labor organizations audited as part of the expanded efforts."

Trivia Tidbit Of The Day: Part 16.
Interesting that Ronald Reagan got such stunningly bad coverage in 1984. Of all the presidential candidates in the past quarter century, John Kerry received the most positive media coverage from the networks (.pdf). On average, Democrats have received 19% more positive coverage from the networks over the years, which matches somewhat that whole "media bias will be worth 15 points for Kerry" thing.

Daniel Flynn's Convoluted Ideology
Flynn also mentioned that he had been banned from speaking on many college campuses and that during a speech at Berkeley Richard Perleman had a shoe thrown at him. He saw irony in the fact that when he was banned from the campuses their was little mention of it in the Press, but when a guy like Ward Churchill is banned from speaking on campus it is national news. He also gave some statistics that showed overwhelming campaign contributions made to John Kerry's nomination for the presidency compared to those given to the Bush campaign and pointed to that as proof that the University campuses are intolerant of free speech and skewed towards sociolist ideology.

JOHN KERRY TROLLS FOR TALES OF WOE
John Kerry really is a despicable excuse for a Senator. Rather than highlight tales of military success, and there have been a lot of those over the past few years, he sends out a letter trolling for stories from malcontents, stories he plans to use to bash President Bush and some of his nominees.

Labor Dept to Workers: Drop Dead
But, I still wanted to throttle some bureaucrat when I read Steven Greenhouse's piece today in The New York Times on the new attempt by the DOL to go after union corruption by hiring 48 new people to audit union finances. The piece is the usual Times "he said, she said" exploration. You have the DOL claiming it's important to root out union corruption versus John Sweeney saying this is payback for the labor movement's support for John Kerry.

Rebuttal - Who really supports veterans?
Far be it from the MONKEY to bash a veteran. The MONKEY's own pop was a Navy man, and served admirably. The MONKEY's grandfather worked diligently in a New England Naval shipyard. While some (read: Bushie's cronies) have felt it necessary to attack John McCain's or John Kerry's or Wesley Clark's records, the MONKEY will simply not trade words with a veteran, the MONKEY will never detract from their service. Kudos and thanks to veterans. Thank you.

The US Election and Gay Marriage.
I don’t care for a lot of mainstream Democrats and Republicans being anti-gay marriage, including both the major Democratic and Republican candidates in the 2004 election. It upsets me quite a bit, but I understand some of their rationales (although I don’t think they are right.) The reason why we’re not accepting of gays and their rights seems to be a combination of a fear of the unfamiliar, as well as traditionalist teachings. And add to that the ideas of people like Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and James Dobson, who disseminate...

The Two Faces of the Blogosphere
In the last election cycle the "netroots" exerted their influence through prodigious fundraising, contributing greatly to the Democrats' fundraising efforts. Howard Dean's primary campaign also demonstrated that the Internet was a rich source of small individual donations that collectively added up to many millions. But throughout the campaign, blogs such as Daily Kos and Eschaton were able to raise the six figure sums that normally only fat cats like Bush "Pioneers" could generate. And along with that money came a large group of engaged and informed...

Immediately after the election, John Kerry avoided the deepest fever swamps of the crackpot Left. But Teresa's kooky pillow-talk has apparently taken effect. On Sunday, Sen. Kerry dredged up allegations of Republican trickery and voter scare tactics in a speech before the League of Women Voters: ''Last year, too many people were denied their right to vote, too many who tried to vote were intimidated.''

We have to show our support with our wallets, and our displeasure with our voices. If you think the Republican Party isn't fighting hard enough, then pick up a phone, or write a letter. Whining about it and hiding your piggy bank is no different than voting for the libertarian candidate or staying home on November 2, 2004, and then kicking yourself on January 20, 2005 while watching John Kerry get inaugurated.

Gay Marriage Hypocrisy On The Left
The former president was reacting to reports that the strategist Arthur Finkelstein was setting up a political action committee to defeat Hillary Rodham Clinton, a New York Democrat, in 2006. Republican officials close to Finkelstein have said that he hopes to be able to finance an advertising campaign similar to the one orchestrated last year against the presidential candidate John Kerry by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
However, what's so fascinating is that the majority of Democrats claim to be against gay marriage as well. John Kerry publicly said he didn't favor legalization of gay marriage. John Edwards also said he didn't support it. Even Bill's wife Hillary openly says she opposes gay marriage.
As for the House, we now know which presidential candidate carried each of the 435 congressional districts, thanks to Polidata, which crunched the numbers for National Journal and the Almanac of American Politics (of which I am co-author). These numbers surprised even some political pros. Bush carried 255 districts and John Kerry only 180. In all, 41 Democrats represent Bush districts and 18 Republicans represent Kerry districts. Eliminating the districts where the House member's presidential candidate won 47 percent or more, we find only five...

Everyone on the Same Page?
The Swiftboat Veterans for Truth ad is making inroads in distorting John Kerry's image. This is only the beginning. There is a valuable lesson here. If you tell the same story for 30 years, and are backed by the man whose life you saved and the United States Navy, you're a liar. If you change your story, you are the one telling the truth. Therefore, each of us should change at least one story from his past. Alberto Gonzalez, be sure to say that you didn't support torture, even when you said you did. The Geneva Conventions are...

On Andrew Jackson and Tammany Hall
So why all the self-righteous seething anger from the MoveOn.org crowd over DeLay's corruption? It was the Democratic Party's founding president, Andrew Jackson, who made an American tradition out of patronage and spoils system politics. It was New York City's Democratic Tammany Hall that turned it into an urban tradition! Chicago's Mayor Daley helped rig an election for fellow Democrat John Kennedy. And in 2004 a certain Pennsylvania city (Democratic of course) had a voting machine with several hundred John...

The Truth About Hillary
The project being billed as “Hillary in the Raw", like you’ve never seen her before, is set to drop in September by liberal Ed Klein, former NYT MAGAZINE editor, VANITY FAIR, PARADE contributor and author of multiple works on the Kennedys … “The revelations in it should sink her candidacy,” a source close to Klein warns the DRUDGE REPORT … Last week, Clinton stalwart Ann Lewis fired off an email to supporters warning of the ‘Swift Boat’ tactics coming against the former first lady turned senator … Now the coming sales pitch for ‘ THE TRUTH ABOUT HILLARY What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far She’ll Go to Become President’ reads: ‘Just as the swift boat veterans convinced millions of voters that John Kerry lacked the character to be president, Klein’s book will influence everyone who is sizing up the character of Hillary Clinton…

John Edwards is running for president
The remark reminds me of when Edwards tried to dispel the notion of the inevitability of John Kerry in a February 2004 Democratic candidate debate.
In an otherwise dull and boring Democratic debate last night in Wisconsin, John Edwards provided some interesting moments. With the other candidates realizing the primary was all but over, it was turning into a John Kerry love-fest. Even Dean joined in, praising Kerry.
After standing there listening to Kerry over and over talk about taking on George Bush in the general election, John Edwards finally spoke up. "Not so fast John Kerry. We're going to have an election here in Wisconsin this Tuesday. And we've got a whole group of primaries coming up. And I, for one, intend to fight for every one of those votes."
Edwards' "not so fast John Kerry" came too late to stop Kerry's momentum last year but with three years to go before the next Democratic nominee will be determined there is still time. Edwards just served notice that he does not intend to let the Democratic primaries become a Clinton coronation. Oh, it's on.

World O'Crap
Bolton's account is most implausible. First, neither analyst worked under Bolton, so it's irrelevant that he lost confidence in them. Second, the "unprofessional conduct" amounted to the State Department analyst's sending Bolton's proposed speech and his own proposed modification to other intelligence officialsstandard procedure for official speeches mentioning intelligence. Third, some of the panel's DemocratsSens. Joseph Biden, Christopher Dodd, and John Kerrycited interviews, which the bipartisan staff has recently conducted with these officials...

Read the whole thing. The Boston Red Sox traveled to the White House yesterday to be honored by the President for winning the 2004 World Series. Many awkward moments ensued, as it is well known that Red Sox ownership had campaigned for John Kerry during the recent election and still feel bitter about his loss. Meanwhile Curt Schilling, an ardent supporter of President Bush, was determined to have his moment in the spotlight.

Senate Dems Continue To Suggest There Was Political Influence on Intelligence
As we reported on Blogs For Bush earlier this month, the WMD Commission determined there was no political influence on the intelligence process leading up to the war in Iraq, However that didn't stop Senator John Kerry (who voted for the war before he voted against funding it) and other Democrat Senators to continue insinuating such during the Bolton confirmation hearings yesterday.
Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, the Democratic nominee for the White House in 2004, said that Bolton's pressure on the analyst reminded him of faulty intelligence estimates that preceded the U.S. invasion of Iraq, a sentiment echoed by other senators.
Also, did you know that John Kerry is placing blog ads that encourages readers to urge Senator Lincoln Chafee to vote against John Bolton's nomination as UN ambassador? The blog ad links to this page on Kerry's former/future campaign site. I guess we know where some of Kerry's leftover campaign cash is going to...

Why Can't We Talk About Religion and Politics?
The candidates aren't going to heed me, of course. During the debates, President Bush proclaimed the importance of his Christian faith, saying, "Prayer and religion sustain me. I receive calmness in the storms of the presidency," and he even stated his belief that "God wants everybody to be free." John Kerry, in general more guarded about his Catholic beliefs but becoming more outspoken recently on matters of religion, pointed to his altar-boy past and recounted the "two greatest commandments" he's learned: "Love...

Update!! Zogby shows Kerry pulling away!!
Just where did John Kerry get his wonderful story about Republicans telling Dems to vote on Wednesday??? Apparently, Kerry's reliable source is The Onion!!
In John Kerry's bid to become the dumbest former candidate for President since Michael Dukakis, he screamed about the terrible tactics of the Right. "Leaflets are handed out saying Democrats vote on Wednesday, Republicans vote on Tuesday. People are told in telephone calls that if you've ever had a parking ticket, you're not allowed to vote," he said.

Cue The Whiner
You have to hand it to John Kerry: he represents the victimhood base of his party very well. The Senator is still claiming that he lost the election through Republican trickery. If you read some of his examples, you have to wonder if someone so stupid as to fall for something like this should be voting in the first place.

Remember "Plamegate"?
While this is mischaracterized, because at the CIA an analyst is worlds apart from an operative, it is noteworthy nonetheless. Especially when compared to the accusations those associated with the Kerry campaign leveled against the Bush administration for "outing" Valerie Plame. To see John Kerry possibly do the same thing strikes me as ironic at the least, and hypocritical at the worst.

Mr. Kerry, Pay Attention!
John Kerry has been complaining of late of "voter fraud" and "voter intimidation". I can think of no clearer example (no, let me put that more succinctly - I can think of no other example) than the ferstuche that went down in Washington State during the 2004 elections.

John Kerry: His Denial About Reasons For His Loss Persists
Many voters in last year’s presidential election were denied access to the polls through trickery and intimidation, former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry told a voters’ group Sunday.
John Kerry is in denial. He simply cannot accept the fact that he lost the presidential election because he was the worst Democrat nominee for president since George McGovern. At least McGovern stuck to his beliefs, while John Kerry always tried to play both sides of an issue.
UPDATE: Of course, John Kerry did not mention other, well documented attempts at intimidation during last fall's campaign.

Confirmation Inquisition: Democrats Going Nuts Over Bolton.
As we noted before regarding Bolton, his most egregious offense is that he has stood up for American sovereignty, believing in America first. Bolton's criticisms of ineffectual and deleterious international institutions are, as John Kerry put it, "inexplicable." President Bush's selection of Bolton is simply unfathomable for many Democrats today. That America's ambassador to the United Nations could have deigned to assert that multilateralism for its own sake is no virtue,...

Redefining "Bad Loser"
Today John Kerry whined about November's election, suggesting that Democratic voters are too clueless to know how to vote:
Beyond that, why aren't Democrats offended by this nonsense? Does John Kerry really think that his voters are so dumb that they actually believe that members of different parties are supposed to vote on different days? News flash, John: that line about Democrats voting on Wednesday is a joke. I differ with Democrats on all kinds of issues, but I would never insult their intelligence the way the leaders of their own party do. Why do rank-and-file Democrats put up with it? Beats me.
Subtle, huh? More than 200 war heroes and POWs, including every officer who ever served in John Kerry's chain of command and the seaman who served for the longest time on his boat, are all smeared as "thugs." You know, thugs: that's what you call people who write books you don't agree with. And what was the "truth" that the Vets destroyed? That's the nice thing about being a political cartoonist--you never have to explain what the heck you're talking about. Here is another:

Polling Literalism
Back during the 2004 campaign, John Kerry stepped right into the gaping polling literalism void by going on and on about how important it was to be "respected in the world" because he had polls showing this was popular. Well, it was popular. But not granting "permission slips" was popular, too. And so was not flip-flopping. It was hard to say "respected in the world" without sounding like you meant "permission slip" or else falling into a French-sounding, flip-floppy nuanced explanation of what you meant. The dynamics of a campaign aren't like the...

Osama vs. Bloody George...an unlikely 'odd couple'
Today, young Americans and countless Iraqi people are dying in a hapless and ill-conceived invasion of that country. The question is: How many people will have had to have died just to prove that he is right? It would have been so refreshing to have gotten a President like John Kerry who would have been flexible enough to know when he was wrong before people started dying.
How convenient. Everyone knew all along during the Presidential campaign that George W. Bush was more trusted by the American people with American security than John Kerry.

The Parent Gap
The Wall Street Journal Opinion covers a new paper released by the Progressive Policy Institute, a "centrist Democratic think tank," by journalist James Taranto. The author of the paper, Barbara Dafoe, noted that according to last year's exit polls, married parents supported President Bush over John Kerry "by nearly 20 percentage points--59 percent to 40 percent." She recognizes one reason for the gap:
Should this come as a surprise us that parents shun Democrats affiliated with Hollywood? After all, it was Whoopi Goldberg who, as the New York Post reported, was "waving a bottle of wine, [and] fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia" and said the country should "keep Bush where it belongs and not in the White House." John Kerry never rebuked Whoopi for the comments. As the WSJ article says, "Democrats would be well advised not to flaunt their association with Hollywood vulgarians, as John Kerry disastrously did." The article also points out one reason the Dems don't eschew such actions is because a lot of money flows in to the Democratic Party from certain Hollywood financers.
Let me comment on the remarks of Denise Ross at Mt. Blogmore. Evidently Tom Daschle suggested the other day in Vermillion that it's John Kerry's fault he lost the election. Denise writes:
My point was precisely that Daschle would have a tougher re-election bid than he was used to because a) it was a presidential year, b) President Bush was obviously going to win this state by a large margin (21 points, as it turned out), and c) Daschle had been identified nationally as the main opponent to Bush in Washington. Thus Daschle would have a harder time than usual getting the Republican split-ticket voters that he had relied on over the years to win. Yet in the MTP debate Daschle dismissed this notion, and indeed dismissed the...
The best chances for Democrats to gain the 15 seats they need to take control of the House in 2006 are in these districts held by "Kerry Republicans." The problem is that there are so few of them. John Kerry carried just 18 GOP House members' districts, while Mr. Bush carried 41 Democratic ones.
It’s John Kerry’s fault Tom Daschle lost the election. Don’t take it from me. Take it from Daschle himself. That’s what he said at an event in Vermillion Tuesday. ...
Todd Epp of S.D.Watch urges his readers to join John Kerry and stop the Republicans from pushing the button and ending filibusters on judicial nominees. Well, its nice that the former Presidential Candidate is getting on with his life, but we can't resist pointing out that there is no matter of principle involved here. The Democrats were more than happy to modify Senate rules to overcome Republican opposition when they owned the Senate. ...

With National Security Now An Issue, Would The Senate Raise Fuel Economy Standards?
As recently as 2002, a bill by John Kerry and John McCain would have raised the standards, but an amendment by Democratic senator and car industry whore Carl Levin removed the higher standards and was passed, throwing the job of setting unspecified standards to the industry-friendly Bush Administration by the end of 2005. Note that 15 current Democratic senators voted against higher fuel economy standards just two years ago, but that six brave GOP senators...

Jabley's Key to Victory #4
Politics is a dirty game. Republicans understand this, while Democrats, in this regard, seemingly suffer from a decade-long bout of political amnesia. The last two Republican campaigns have opportunistically capitalized on a recognized truth of human psychology: repetition works. I’d argue that the recent GOP success in large part derives not from being right on the issues, but rather from being annoyingly persistent with their message. Republicans have mastered the art of repeating the party mantra over and again regardless of how...

Jabley's Key to Victory #5
One of the things John Kerry had going for him in 2004 was that he was right on the majority of issues. Despite his superior policies and refreshingly intellectual style, there was one thing he could not overcome: his most fervent base. That’s right, überdems and the issue of gay marriage (civil unions, insert your terminology of choice here) lost the election in 2004.
Are you talking about these same statewide exit polls all of which predicted that John Kerry would win Ohio by up to 4%?

In the 2004 election, Bush's campaign helped organise the attack on John Kerry's Catholic authenticity by conservative bishops who threatened to deny him communion. Inside the White House, policy and personnel are coordinated in line with rightwing Catholicism. Not only are issues like international population control, reproductive health and women's rights vetted, but so are appointments.

Kerry calls on Mass. governor to sign stem cell legislation
Former Democratic presidential candidate and Massachusetts Senator John Kerry is calling on Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney to sign legislation that would boost stem cell research in the state. In a Boston Herald newspaper editorial, Kerry states that "We heard the same kind of arguments against biotech research that now saves stroke victims and leukemia patients," adding that possible cures are "right at our fingertips" but could remain beyond reach due to politics. He added that Romney signing the bill would lead to a "new era of hope for all."

'Cause there are NO Catholics in Boston
Ted Kennedy is going to Rome. And, yes, John Kerry, too. (Pro-abortion Catholics and the state of Massachusetts both overrepresented, dontcha think?)
And do we really need to call John Kerry, a man who has made his own personal qualms with abortion quite clear, pro-abortion? The man is pro-choice.
And for anyone wondering why I mention hypocrisy – a great number of these people attending (John Kerry included) voted for the Iraq War – a stance clearly opposed by the Pope. The President will be attending, despite the fact that he is both clearly at odds with the Catholic church’s teachings on war and the death penalty and he isn’t even a member of the Church.

Where Democrats Stand This Moment
People often ask me “Hey B, why do you think Bush won in November?” I’ve thought about it long and hard, and I think I know the reason: America is full of retards. I’m just kidding. America really is full of stupid people, but that’s not the only reason Bush won. In all seriousness, I think Bush won because he made people feel more secure about the world they live in. To me, it seemed that John Kerry never instilled a sense of true security in America’s people, and that was a fatal mistake.
So? What do the next four years have in store for us? Nobody knows. Perhaps Bush will invade a few more countries and try to add to his resume. Always trying to appease daddy, right, Mr. President? As all of you already know, I was and still am staunchly opposed to the War in Iraq. However, unlike John Kerry, I did not flip-flop on the issue. You can ask anybody. I said that this was stupid from Day One, and I continue to support that view today. I’m interested in seeing who runs for President in ‘08. Contrary to what many of you Conservatives...

Crawford mayor won't run again
CRAWFORD -- Months after he endorsed Democrat John Kerry for president, the mayor of the tiny town made famous by President Bush's ranch has decided not to seek reelection. Mayor Robert Campbell said his decision had nothing to do with fallout from his decision to join the National Conference of Black Mayors in endorsing Kerry. Instead, he cited differences with the City Council. ''I think the city needs to go in one way, and apparently the City Council wants it to go another way," said Campbell, who has been mayor for seven years. ''It's time to get out of the way." Campbell, 61, clashed with councilors over proposals to build a new subdivision in the town of 705 residents. The subdivision project was approved in January over his objections. (AP)
